MK Members:

Campaigns

Mebyon Kernow is playing a leading role in many campaigns for a better deal for Cornwall and its communities. These include campaigns for greater investment in public services, to tackle the housing crisis and the lack of affordable housing locally, to protect the local environment and support initiatives to create well-paid jobs in Cornwall.

In recent weeks, MK councillors collected over 2,000 signatures on the official FBU petition against Liberal Democrat plans to end 24 hour cover at Camborne and Falmouth Fire Stations. They are pictured below presenting the petitions to representatives of the FBU at Camborne (photo: Colin Higgs).

MK has also supported efforts to reopen South Crofty Tin Mine, which has just secured a considerable injection of investment. Cllrs Stuart Cullimore and Mike Champion (below) ran a petition in the local area in support of the mining plans.

MK has also been the only political party which has actively and consistently opposed Cornwall County Council’s plans for a single unitary authority, while maintaining the fight for a proper democratic settlement for Cornwall.

In December 2006, Mebyon Kernow councillors and activists marked the fifth anniversary of the 50,000 declarations for a Cornish Assembly being presented to Downing Street with a rally at Bodmin. At this event, we reaffirmed our commitment to a wining a legislative Cornish Assembly to stand up for Cornwall.
