Do I have to be born in Cornwall to be in Mebyon Kernow?

It doesn't matter where you were born to join Mebyon Kernow. Our vision for Cornwall is based on inclusivity and respect for one and all. What does MK want for Cornwall?

The people of Cornwall are perfectly capable of making the important economic, environmental and social decisions that affect our local communities. Our unique sense of 'togetherness', our vibrant and open culture and our distinct values are often ignored by the many quangos that include Cornwall in a wider, London dominated 'South West' region.

Mebyon Kernow has consistently campaigned for Cornish Assembly because we believe that we have the passion, talent and skills to build a better Cornish society for the benefit of present and future generations.

Why did MK not support the Unitary Council Bid?

The unitary authority will not have any more powers than the existing County Council. It will centralise political power whilst removing the district councils - an important layer of local democracy which should be taking on further services. Only one local government layer to serve Cornwall will mean less accountability, less electoral representation and less councillors to make sure our local government services are properly run.

Cornwall needs real democracy, and a government structure that provides a real voice for the people. We believe that this can only be achieved through the creation of a legislative Cornish Assembly.

Why should I vote for MK and not one of the UK wide parties?

MK is the ONLY party that consistently has the best interests of the people of Cornwall at its core. Experience has demonstrated that the London-based parties simply pay lip service to Cornish issues for electoral purposes. The Cornish aspect to their manifesto is either weakly acted upon or ignored.

Mebyon Kernow stands up for Cornwall and you can judge us by our track record as campaigners, councillors and in our endeavour to work with one and all to ensure we get what is best for Cornwall. Mebyon Kernow also has important UK, European and global links. We are part of the European Free Alliance along with other political parties including Plaid Cymru and the Scottish Nationalist Party with whom we have had close links for many years.

Isn't MK a bit insular, concentrating only on Cornwall and not the rest of the world?

Mebyon Kernow is a Cornish party with an international outlook. Our foreign policies include fairer international trade rules, peace and disarmament and an end to nuclear proliferation. We're proud to be a party that respects other communities as much as our own. Cornwall has so much to share with the world, and Mebyon Kernow has always believed that caring for others is as important as caring for Cornwall's interests.
