Councillor Richard Clark, the Deputy Mayor of Penzance, has addressed a day-long seminar on Local Government reorganisation at the Queen's Hotel, Penzance. The seminar was organised by Penwith District Council, which will be abolished on 31st March 2009.

Mebyon Kernow – the Party for Cornwall has condemned the Government announcement via a ministerial statement that Cornwall County Council’s bid for unitary status will proceed and that the first set of elections will take place in 2009.

Mebyon Kernow has welcomed the news that Cornwall County Council’s Liberal Democrat Executive is planning to do an embarrassing u-turn on its plans to reduce fire cover.
The Council’s Executive plan to recommend an increase in the budget for the Cornish Fire Service and to continue 24-hour cover from Camborne Fire Station. No statement has been made on the future of 24-hour cover from Falmouth and MK is continuing to voice its support for the fire-fighters at the port.

MK ACTIVIST SPEAKS AT POLITICAL EVENT IN MALLORCA
A leading member of Mebyon Kernow travelled to Mallorca, last weekend, to speak at a political youth event organised by young Mallorcans.
Rhisiart Tal-e-bot, who formerly lived in Truro, was invited by Joves d'Esquerra Nacionalista (www.jen.cat) to Palma de Mallorca in his role as President of the European Free Alliance Youth (EFAy) - a federation of political youth organisations throughout Europe.
In addition to speaking about his political work at a European level, Rhisiart also spoke about MK, his experience of being a politically active young person in Cornwall and some of the challenges facing young people in Cornwall today.

CLLR RICHARD CLARK CHOSEN TO FIGHT ST IVES SEAT
Members of the St Ives Constituency Party of Mebyon Kernow have selected Branch Chairman Richard Clark to fight the seat at the next General Election.
The decision was welcomed by Party Leader Cllr Dick Cole who said:
“Richard is an outstanding campaigner and a passionate advocate for a better deal for Cornwall and its people. I am thrilled that he will be standing in the St Ives Constituency and I am confident that he will demonstrate to one and all that the only political party worth their support is Mebyon Kernow – the Party for Cornwall.
