MK sadness at Tory “spin” about “deal”

Cornwall Council has just published the results of a ten-week public consultation into the so-called “devolution deal.” The leader of the unitary authority has confirmed that her Conservative administration intends to push ahead with a mayor for Cornwall, even though feedback (6,105 responses) from the public consultation showed 69% of people were against a mayor. MK demands better deal for Cornish language

In its response to an upcoming parliamentary review into the health of minority languages across the UK, Mebyon Kernow has called for greater legislative protections for Cornish and meaningful investment into the language. In a wide-ranging document, MK has argued that the UK Government has consistently failed to meet its obligations to the Cornish language and the Cornish as detailed through the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages and the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.
