MK’s Donte Spillane wins Camborne by-election

Great news. Mebyon Kernow has won the by-election for a seat on Camborne Town Council (Treswithian Ward). Donte Spillane, a local NHS worker, out-polled a single Conservative opponent. Well done to Donte and his team. This means that MK now has eight elected members on the town council – the most we have ever had on a local council. Birmingham City Council, one of the UK’s largest local authorities, is in financial trouble. It has issued a Section 114 notice, which means that the council can no longer “balance its budgets” and has to agree a plan with central government about its future. BBC Radio 4’s Any Questions was in Cornwall on 1st September and the political debate took place at the Lostwithiel Community Centre.
