The benefits and perceived disbenefits of a tourist tax are regularly debated in Cornwall, but it is elsewhere that steps are actually being taken to bring in such a new charge. Donte to stand in Camborne Treswithian

Mebyon Kernow is pleased to announce that Donte Spillane has been selected to contest the upcoming by-election for a seat on Camborne Town Council (Treswithian Ward). The election takes place on Thursday 5th October. Donte works locally for the National Health Service and has a range of qualifications covering topics such as housing practise, first aid and safeguarding. The Conservative member of parliament for North Wiltshire, James Gray, recently enjoyed his “annual pilgrimage” to North Cornwall for his summer holiday. He wrote about this visit in an article on his website, which sought to point out the economic benefits of tourism. Sadly, his piece showed a disturbing lack of empathy with the full-time population of Cornwall. Cornwall and its historic treasures

Following the news that thousands of objects have been stolen from the British Museum, Plaid Cymru has called for key Welsh artefacts to be returned to Wales. The leader of the Party of Wales in Westminster, Liz Saville-Roberts, said that “security is no longer a good enough argument for keeping the treasures in London.” One of the items referenced by the Plaid MP was the Mold Gold Cape dating from 1900-1600BC.
