Report back from “Devolution: the next steps”

MK members and guests congregated at Bodmin’s Shire House Suite today, to consider recent discussions around “devolution deals” for Cornwall and to provide feedback on MK’s campaigns for meaningful devolution. Agenda for “Devolution: the next steps” event

One and all are welcome at this Saturday’s half-day Conference –  “Devolution: the next steps” – which will take place in the Shire House Suite in Bodmin. The event is not a traditional conference with lots of keynote speeches. Instead, there will be group discussion sessions, at which MK members and supporters will be able to feedback their views to MK’s National Executive. Devolution discussion at Scrutiny Committee

At yesterday’s meeting of the Customers and Support Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee, there was an update on progress with a “devolution deal.” The report to the Committee noted that Cornwall Council’s ruling Cabinet had taken the decision not to proceed with a Level 3 “deal” because of opposition to a directly-elected mayor. MK councillor hits out at parking charges

Mebyon Kernow councillor for Callington and St Dominic, Andrew Long, is playing a key part in the fightback against the decision by Cornwall Council to introduce new charges in car parks in Callington. MK comment on 75 years of the NHS

Seventy-five years ago today, on 5th July 1948, the Health Secretary Nye Bevan launched the National Health Service at Manchester’s Park Hospital. It is well reported that Bevan symbolically met the NHS’s “first patient,” a 13-year-old girl called Sylvia Diggory.
