Please respond to census consultation

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is holding two consultations into the content of the 2031 census. These comprise one on topics for the next census and a second linked about ethnicity/nationality. Both consultations close on 4th February. The leader of Mebyon Kernow has called for the creation of a Cornish Police Force, following the UK Government announcement that they plan to cut the number of police forces serving Cornwall, England and Wales. In the lead-up to the 2021 census, I was heavily involved with the campaign to secure a Cornish nationality tick-box. We repeatedly made the argument that the UK Government had promised to treat the Cornish – who they recognise as a national minority – in the same manner as the Northern Irish, Scottish and Welsh, who were to be allocated tick-boxes. MK is celebrating it’s 75th anniversary

This week, Mebyon Kernow members and supporters are marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of Mebyon Kernow at the Oates Temperance Hotel in Redruth, which took place on 6th January 1951. Thirteen people were present at the meeting and a further six sent apologies. The first leader of MK was a woman, Helena Charles, who also became the first MK member to serve as a councillor, when she was elected onto Camborne-Redruth Urban District Council in 1953.
