MK members and guests congregated at Bodmin’s Shire House Suite today, to consider recent discussions around “devolution deals” for Cornwall and to provide feedback on MK’s campaigns for meaningful devolution.
Speaking on behalf of MK’s leadership team, Cllr Dick Cole said: “It was good to see so many friends at Bodmin and to discuss why Cornwall needs proper control over its future through a new democratic settlement. Topics covered in informal table discussions included planning and housing, the environment, economic matters and public services, as well as how we strengthen the campaign for a Cornish Parliament. The feedback will be really helpful as we plan our future activities.”
Also present at the event were Dr Garry Tregidga and Professor Joanie Willett from the Institute of Cornish Studies. Dr Tregidga spoke about the publication of a new book “Cornish Democracy; Studies in Governance and Identity,” which includes a series of articles about devolution and related subjects. Professor Willett spoke about her work on governance models in the USA and how this might have relevance for Cornwall and its future.
