At the last meeting of MK’s National Executive, party representatives expressed solidarity with all those striving to protect working people and ensure that their working conditions are safe and secure.
In particular, they gave full support to International Workers’ Day on 1st May, which developed out of the campaign for an eight-hour working day, and also International Workers’ Memorial Day (28th April), which remembers all people who lost their lives to workplace illness or injury.
Globally, the International Labour Organisation has estimated that, last year, “nearly three million workers died due to work-related accidents and diseases.” Accidents were estimated to account for 330,000 deaths, while 2.6 million deaths stem from work-related diseases, including circulatory and respiratory problems.
This really should impress on one and all the need to keep fighting to keep workers safe, while also striving to fight for improved conditions and fair pay for everyone.
