It is less than two weeks to the tenth anniversary of the recognition of the Cornish as a “national minority” by the UK Government and Mebyon Kernow will be holding an event on Saturday 20th April, at which party members will issue a challenge to central government to deliver on its promises from 2014.
Speaking about the event, MK leader Cllr Dick Cole has said: “Recognition was a landmark decision with Westminster promising that the Cornish would be afforded the “same status” as the ‘UK’s other Celtic people, the Scots, the Welsh and the Irish.’
“Sadly, it has been disappointing that, during the last decade, central government has failed to meet so many of its obligations to the Cornish as set out in the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.
“Please join us on the 20th and help us to keep up the pressure to turn ‘recognition’ into meaningful gains for the Cornish and Cornwall.”
The meeting will be held in the council offices in Truro and will take start at 2.00. One and all are welcome to attend.
