MK will oppose any cross-Tamar “devo-deal”

Following the news that the ruling administration on Plymouth City Council has written to the UK Government suggesting that a “peninsula-wide [devolution] deal for Cornwall, Devon, Plymouth and Torbay” should be explored, Mebyon Kernow has re-iterated that the footprint for any devolved settlement must be Cornwall.

Commenting on behalf of the Party for Cornwall, Party Leader Cllr Dick Cole said: “Cornwall is one of the nations of the United Kingdom and therefore merits its own devolution settlement – similar to those in Scotland and Wales.

“It is unacceptable that any cross-Tamar arrangements be taken forward and we will oppose any that are suggested.

“We will continue to push for a really meaningful devolution settlement for Cornwall and we will continue to encourage others to also support a Parliament or National Assembly for Cornwall.”
