St Piran’s Day 2000 – 25 years on!

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Declaration for a Cornish Assembly campaign by Mebyon Kernow. The declaration was backed by over 50,000 people during 2000 and 2001, and became an important part of the cross-party campaign for greater self-government. Council votes for Cornish devolution

We are pleased to report that councillors on the unitary authority overwhelmingly backed a motion to support devolution on a Cornwall footprint and oppose a South West Peninsula Mayoral Strategic Authority being imposed on Cornwall. The motion was tabled by MK Cllr Dick Cole and seconded by independent Cllr Peter La Broy. It was backed by 56 councillors. Four councillors opposed the motion and there were 11 abstentions. The leader of MK, Cllr Dick Cole, has called on one and all to support the motion which he has tabled for Tuesday’s Cornwall Council meeting. It seeks to bring everyone together in support of devolution for Cornwall.
