Comment from Cllr Dick Cole – Leader of Mebyon Kernow

The online petition urging the “UK Government to formally recognize Cornwall as a nation … granting it equal status to Wales and Scotland” closed on 11 September and the mandarins at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government have published their official response. It was emailed to all 24,011 individuals who backed the petition. I have spoken to a number of people who received the reply – which ignored the core demands of the ask – and my colleagues have…

Over the last four years, some limited progress has been…

It is inspiring how Plaid has championed the best interests of Wales, its nationhood and culture, over the last 100 years. As one of Plaid’s sister parties, we are especially grateful at how many leading members of Plaid have been to Cornwall in show of inter-Celtic solidarity and spoken at MK events.…

Newspapers back Cornish nationhood

Local newspapers have also backed the campaign for greater recognition for Cornwall, with editorials in the Cornish Guardian, Cornishman and West Briton. An extract is as follows: “Cornwall’s a nation so why can’t that be acknowledged. “Cornwall was officially accorded National Minority status by the UK Government more than a decade ago. It has its own language, painstakingly preserved and revived; it has its own cultural patrimony, in its music, its literature, its legend and its land. It has its own…
