MK’s Donte Spillane wins Camborne by-election

Great news. Mebyon Kernow has won the by-election for a seat on Camborne Town Council (Treswithian Ward). Donte Spillane, a local NHS worker, out-polled a single Conservative opponent. Well done to Donte and his team. This means that MK now has eight elected members on the town council – the most we have ever had on a local council. Birmingham City Council, one of the UK’s largest local authorities, is in financial trouble. It has issued a Section 114 notice, which means that the council can no longer “balance its budgets” and has to agree a plan with central government about its future. Mebyon Kernow is pleased to announce that Donte Spillane has been selected to contest the upcoming by-election for a seat on Camborne Town Council (Treswithian Ward). The election takes place on Thursday 5th October. Donte works locally for the National Health Service and has a range of qualifications covering topics such as housing practise, first aid and safeguarding. Cornwall and its historic treasures

Following the news that thousands of objects have been stolen from the British Museum, Plaid Cymru has called for key Welsh artefacts to be returned to Wales. The leader of the Party of Wales in Westminster, Liz Saville-Roberts, said that “security is no longer a good enough argument for keeping the treasures in London.” One of the items referenced by the Plaid MP was the Mold Gold Cape dating from 1900-1600BC. MK members and guests congregated at Bodmin’s Shire House Suite today, to consider recent discussions around “devolution deals” for Cornwall and to provide feedback on MK’s campaigns for meaningful devolution. Agenda for “Devolution: the next steps” event

One and all are welcome at this Saturday’s half-day Conference –  “Devolution: the next steps” – which will take place in the Shire House Suite in Bodmin.
