A tribute to former MK Chair Loveday Carlyon

Everyone at Mebyon Kernow is extremely saddened that MK’s eighth leader, Loveday Carlyon, recently passed away. Loveday was MK’s chair between 1986 and 1989. A formidable campaigner, she promoted a series of high profile media campaigns. This included criticism of mass tourism and she helped MK force a public inquiry seeking a Cornwall-only constituency for the European Parliament in 1988. No to Devonwall – good news

Mebyon Kernow has welcomed the announcement from Steve Reed, the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, which rules out the threat of a Devonwall Mayoral Strategic Authority [MSA] being imposed on Cornwall. Mebyon Kernow has welcomed the announcement from the UK Government that the Cornish language will be protected through part three of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. The UK Government has just published a press release about the budget and what it means for “Cornwall and the South West.” It includes confirmation that the Cornish language will be protected through part three of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.
