This morning, the Prime Minister confirmed that the UK Government will establish a “council for regions and nations.” The announcement was made at a meeting in Downing Street with mayors from across England.
It has been reported that key discussions at the meeting including devolution.
The Prime Minister has been quoted as stating that he wants to loosen Westminster’s “tight grip” and that he was a ”great believer in the idea that those with skin in the game – those that know their communities – make much better decisions.”
The nation of Cornwall was not represented at the meeting. Likewise, on his tour of the nations of the UK, Kier Starmer did not visit Cornwall.
MK Party Leader, Cllr Dick Cole, said: “At this important time for the UK’s new Government, we call on Cornwall’s MPs to challenge the PM to ensure that the nation of Cornwall is represented on the ‘council for regions and nations,’ and also achieves greater parity with Wales and Scotland through meaningful devolution.”
